Hi! I grew up in Augusta, GA where my father retired from the U.S. Army after serving for 22 years. I have a rather diverse educational background. My wife says I'm a little too well rounded. I received a Bachelor’s degree in French Literature from the University of Georgia and a Diploma in French as a Second Language from L’Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada.
They say that dentistry is both an art and a science. I'm actually a formally trained artist and I enjoy applying my artistic knowledge to cosmetic dentistry. I feel that one should never stop learning. I enjoy the pursuit of knowledge and I’m always eager to master better and more efficient techniques to better serve my patients.
I received a Master’s of Science (MS) degree in Medical Illustration and I'm only aware of two other dentists in the entire U.S. that also have a Master's degree in Medical Illustration. We're quite the elite group. I completed my medical illustration training in 1995 at the Medical College of Georgia (MCG), now known as Augusta University. In 2001, I graduated from MCG with a Doctorate in Dental Medicine (DMD)
I'm currently an adjunct professor at GRU Graduate Program in Medical Illustration and a former assistant professor at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University where I was an assistant course director for esthetic dentistry. I'm also the founder of 3ddmd, a company that creates illustrations for the dental and medical fields.
I'm a published author and medical illustrator. For example, I co-authored and illustrated this article for Inside Dentistry: https://www.dentalaegis.com/id/2015/03/ideal-restoration-of-proximal-contacts-in-complex-class-II-lesions
I'm a member of the following:
- Georgia Dental Association
- American Dental Association
- Academy of General Dentistry
- American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
- American Academy of Implant Dentistry
- American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics
- International Congress of Oral Implantologists
- American Dental Education Association
- Association of Medical Illustrators
I'm proud to say that I have received my Fellowship Status with the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics:
Outside the office, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, staying active and creating art.
And just in case you were wondering what a medical illustrator actually does for a living: http://www.ami.org/medical-illustration/enter-the-profession/careers
My name is Sandy, I am originally from Florida and I have been in the dental field since 1991. I graduated from FSCJ in 1993 as a certified dental assistant. And since then I have proudly worked side by side with patient’s helping them restore their smiles. The best part of my job is the communication with patients. I enjoy being able to help answer their questions and unravel the mystery of dental insurance. I have 4 children the youngest being my stepson and my hobbies include photography and spending time with my family. In fact, all the photography on this website was taken by yours truly. These are real people who we're glad to call friends.
